Beware, Food and Drink It Can Trigger Migraine!
Migraine is a pain in the head that is generally only about the side of the head only. In addition to headaches, some patients also feel nausea, vomiting, and more sensitive to light or sound.
According to Migraine Research Foundation, what we eat and drink it can also be a trigger for migraine. Well, so you are not attacked by migraines, here are some foods and beverages you should avoid:
Caffeine
Too much or too little caffeine can cause migraines. But according to the American Migraine Foundation, caffeine can actually help stop the attacking migraine. Foods containing caffeine include, chocolate, tea and coffee.
Artificial sweeteners
According to Mayo Clinic, many processed foods contain artificial sweeteners. This artificial sweetener is often used as an alternative sugar for diabetics. Aspartame content in it is thought to trigger migraine.
Red wine
According to dr. Dyah Novita Anggraini, a sulphite used as a preservative in red wine can trigger migraine. But basically, alcohol in any drink can cause increased blood flow to the brain as well as dehydration.
Red wine and beer are thought to trigger about 25 percent of people affected by regular migraines. Meanwhile, alcohol can cause dehydration, which is a contributor to the onset of headaches.
MSG
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) or vetsin are chemicals that are often used to enhance taste and are most commonly found in some salty snacks. These compounds can also cause migraine.
The American Migraine Foundation notes that MSG can trigger an increase in migraines from 10 to 15 percent in people who have migraines.
The food is salty
Salty foods, especially processed foods that contain preservatives can trigger the emergence of migraine in some people. Eating high sodium levels can also increase blood pressure, causing headaches or migraines.
Frozen food
Eating frozen foods and drinks can trigger pain that pierces the head. Most likely you will experience headaches that later become migraines, if you eat cold food quickly, after exercise, or when the weather is too hot.
To avoid or at least reduce migraine symptoms, in addition to avoiding some of the foods and beverages described above, according to dr. Fiona Amelia MPH, you can also reduce migraine symptoms by undergoing acupuncture therapy, massage therapy, and psychotherapy.
In addition, supplements such as vitamin B2, coenzyme Q10, and magnesium can prevent the frequency of migraine. If your migraines are frequent and in the long term, you should consult a neurologist to get proper and quick treatment.
