Is Mineral Water Can Expire?

Perhaps you've wondered when looking at the expiration date on mineral water packing. Whether water can be stale? Or is there any other purpose behind the date inclusion?

The answer is water, including mineral water, can not be expired. The expiration date printed on the mineral water bottle is intended to maintain the quality of the plastics that contain it.

Water is a chemical compound, like oxygen and iron, which is naturally present in nature. Therefore, they can not be expired and can last forever in their natural containers.

Plastics commonly used to pack mineral water made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). These materials are slightly porous so in a long duration, the water stored in the packaging can be contaminated.

Components of plastics can also be damaged over time and contaminate the water in them. This is why when drinking mineral water that has been stored for too long, often smell or taste somewhat changed. For example, feel the sensation of plastic or foreign objects in the water.

Simply put, mineral water can still be drunk even though it has passed the expiry date listed. With note, the mineral water is always kept in a closed room that is free from sunlight and hazardous materials, especially those that smell like stinging pesticides or gasoline. While it is safe, it is still not recommended.

If you store mineral water as a supply at home, keep it in place and in the right way. And when it is drunk, replace your mineral water supplies regularly.
