Not Only Nausea, Here Are 9 Characteristics of Pregnancy Rarely Realized
In addition to nausea, vomiting, and late menstruation, there are a number of characteristics of pregnancy that often appear but may be rarely recognized by some women. What are the characteristics of pregnancy?
Pregnancy can be seen through its very diverse characteristics. The characteristics of pregnancy have even been seen or felt since the early weeks of pregnancy.
However, sometimes some of the characteristics of pregnancy are difficult to distinguish from symptoms of certain health conditions, so many women do not realize that they are pregnant.
Get to know these rare pregnancy characteristics
There are at least 9 characteristics of pregnancy that are rarely recognized and often mistaken for health problems, not a sign of pregnancy. These characteristics are:
1. Blood comes out of the vagina
Not a few women who are fooled and suspect that the discharge of blood from the vagina is a sign of menstruation. In fact, this can also be a sign of early pregnancy. This characteristic of pregnancy is called implantation bleeding.
Although similar, implantation bleeding and bleeding from the vagina due to menstruation have different characteristics.
Blood that comes out during menstruation is usually more and thick and red, while blood coming out of the vagina due to implantation bleeding is usually only a little and the color is brown or pink.
2. Mood is easy to change
One of the characteristics of pregnancy is mood changes or mood swings. These characteristics of pregnancy usually begin to be felt when a woman's pregnancy reaches 6-10 weeks.
Changing moods can occur due to hormonal changes, such as estrogen and progesterone. Increased levels of pregnancy hormones also affect nerve cells in the brain, so that the mood of pregnant women is easy to change.
3. Frequent urination
Frequent urination is one of the characteristics of pregnancy. This complaint arises because of an increase in the pregnancy hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) during pregnancy. This makes urine production in the body increase, so that the bladder is full more easily.
Besides being a pregnancy hormone, complaints of frequent urination as a feature of pregnancy can also arise due to enlargement of the size of the uterus that can suppress the bladder, so that the urge to urinate will be more often felt. This can make pregnant women urinate more than 6-8 times a day.
4. Sensitive to smell
Sensitivity to odors is one of the earliest characteristics of pregnancy and can have an impact on nausea experienced by pregnant women (morning sickness).
In fact, not a few pregnant women who still feel nauseous when smelling something fragrant and previously did not cause nausea, such as perfume or fragrance.
5. Constipation
Many women often mistakenly suspect that constipation experienced is only the impact of unhealthy eating patterns, even though constipation or constipation can also be a characteristic of pregnancy.
This is due to hormonal changes during pregnancy that make the muscles in the digestive tract more relaxed and the uterus that is growing and pressing on the intestine. Changes in the body of a pregnant woman can make the bowel movements become slower, causing constipation.
6. Limp body
The body feels weak and occurs for no apparent reason, it doesn't mean that you don't eat enough, don't get enough rest, or are sick. This can be caused by hormonal changes that occur when you are pregnant.
When pregnant, the body produces more of the hormone progesterone. This increased hormone can make pregnant women become more frequent weak and sleepy.
Plus, mood swings take energy. All of these things can make the body feel weak even though you are not much activity.
7. Dizziness
Women who are pregnant often will easily feel dizzy. This can be caused by a decrease in blood pressure at the beginning of a normal pregnancy. This characteristic of pregnancy can usually be felt when the new gestational age reaches about 6 weeks.
8. Nasal congestion and nosebleeds
Increased levels of hormones in the body during pregnancy can also cause nasal swelling, dryness, and bleeding more easily. This can make pregnant women more prone to nasal congestion and nosebleeds.
9. Tighter breasts
If you feel breasts become firmer, denser, and sensitive, it could be that this indicates that you are pregnant.
The reason is, breast tightening is a physical change that is common in the early weeks of pregnancy. As pregnancy increases, changes that occur in the breast will be increasingly visible. This is a natural process for the body to prepare for the birth of a baby and the process of breastfeeding.
If you feel the characteristics of pregnancy above, you can try to do a pregnancy test yourself using a testpack.
If the results are positive, this indicates that you are already pregnant. However, if the testpack results are negative, you can repeat it in the next week or consult an obstetrician to ensure that the appearance of the pregnancy characteristics is caused by pregnancy or other causes.
